back to the roots, that is our motto in this newsletter. We see ourselves not only as a service provider, but would also like to help you build up your own know-how on the topics we deal with.
For this reason, we clarify the question of what a WEEE number actually is and what it is needed for. You will also receive step-by-step instructions on how to apply for a WEEE number.
The basis of the Europe-wide regulation for the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment is Directive 2012 19 EU. We explain what it is all about and why you should deal with it.
We hope you enjoy reading our newsletter and look forward to your feedback.

Directive 2012 19 EU - what's behind it
Implications for manufacturers and distributors of electrical equipment
Directive 2012 19 EU came into force on 13 August 2012 and regulates the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment in general. It states that EU member states must ensure that producers of electrical and electronic equipment take it back and recycle it after use or ensure its recovery.
New campaign to hand in old appliances
EAR Foundation launches new WEEE collection campaign
With a new campaign, the Foundation Elektro-Altgeräte Register (EAR) wants to call for an increase in the take-back of e-waste. The campaign is particularly aimed at old devices that are hoarded in private households. According to estimates, there are about 200 million smartphones alone in drawers, cellars and attics. Under the motto "Let go - even if it hurts. Dispose of your e-waste now", the foundation is now using various media channels to draw attention to the proper disposal of old devices.
Under the name Plan-E, the EAR had for the first time in 2019 launched a campaign financed by the manufacturers to increase the take-back quantities.
While consumer education is important, manufacturers also have a duty to fulfil their legal obligations under the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act. A sustainable increase in collection rates is only possible with each other.

Would you like to meet your obligations under the Packaging Act independently? Then the Central Packaging Register Office has just the thing for you. The most important questions are clarified in five checklists on all aspects of the Packaging Act. Among other things, they check whether you have obligations under the Packaging Act, what you should know about registration and what happens after registration.
In our newsletter 13-2021 we already talked about the possibility of appointing an authorised representative for foreign online traders, importers or companies that deliver packaged goods from abroad to Germany. There is also a checklist on this topic, which informs you about your rights and obligations.
For those companies for whom this is too time-consuming and who do not want to study, understand and implement checklists, we are happy to provide active support. We will help you professionally to fulfil your legal obligations. Our advisors are available to answer your questions by phone or email.
