Extended producer responsibility (EPR) for textiles in the Netherlands - Take action now!
New EPR for Textiles in the Netherlands
The introduction of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for textiles in the Netherlands is imminent. Starting from July 1, 2023, manufacturers and first distributors of textile products will need to implement changes.
As a company selling textiles such as clothing in the Netherlands, you will assume responsibility for the collection and recycling of textiles through EPR. To comply with the requirements of textile EPR, all affected companies must be registered in a legally recognized EPR system that monitors compliance with EPR obligations.
Which products does the EPR regulation for textiles apply to?
The EPR regulation applies to:
Consumer clothing
Workwear
Bed linen
Table linen
Household textiles such as towels and dishcloths
Returned products (that have been placed on the market)
If your company is a manufacturer or first distributor of textiles in the Netherlands, you are legally obligated to register with a legally approved EPR system.

Game-changing shift: EPR for packaging hits small businesses in the UK
In the UK, the Packaging Waste Regulation previously affected companies with an annual turnover of at least £2 million.
However, with the implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging on January 1, 2023, this threshold has changed.
Starting from January 1, 2024, small businesses that place packaging on the UK market, which were previously exempt from registration requirements, are now obliged to register and are covered by the new regulations.
What has changed?
With the implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging on January 1, 2023, a new threshold has been set, requiring companies to register their packaging activities with regulatory authorities.
Companies with an annual turnover of at least £1 million that supplied at least 25 tonnes of packaging to the UK market in the previous year must register and declare the quantities.
What does this mean for your business?
If your business generates an annual turnover of at least £1 million and places packaging on the UK market, you need to prepare for the new obligations that will apply to you from January 1, 2024. This may require a review and adjustment of your internal processes to ensure compliance with the new requirements. But don't worry, we are here to help. Jordan's packaging revolution: New EPR rules effective January 1, 2024
The Jordanian government has decided to introduce improved collection and recycling structures from January 1, 2024, to enhance the recycling of packaging waste in the country. Under the new law, all initial distributors and manufacturers of packaging will be required to participate in the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system of the country.
The phased implementation of the EPR system
The EPR system for packaging in Jordan will be introduced in four consecutive phases to achieve continuous improvement in waste management and recycling of packaging waste:
In this phase, the EPR provisions are optional for all producers and importers, and they apply from the day of publication in the official gazette until December 2023.
Starting from January 1, 2024, the provisions become mandatory for all producers and importers whose annual local sales exceed 50 million dinars and whose annual market production is 1,000 tonnes.
Beginning in early 2025, the mandatory provisions apply to importers and producers with annual local sales exceeding 20 million dinars or an annual production exceeding 500 tonnes.
From 2026, the EPR guidelines become binding for importers and producers with annual local sales exceeding 5 million dinars or an annual production of more than 200 tonnes.
