Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) should be familiar to every online retailer by now. So is the fact that the product areas that are subject to EPR regulation, and thus must be licensed and registered, are continually changing. For those exporting to the UK, the big challenge is keeping on top of the legal requirements for EPR regulation.
Today's newsletter is about the obligations retailers have to fulfill in the UK. We also inform you about the increased packaging waste per capita in Germany and the extended deadlines for labeling obligations in France and Italy.
We hope you enjoy reading our newsletter and look forward to your feedback.

France: Deadline for mandatory labeling of packaging extended
For packaging manufactured or imported before November 9, 2022, the deadline for legal implementation of labeling has been extended. Originally planned to be implemented by March 09, 2023, this has now been extended to June 15, 2023.
The general legal deadline for the implementation of the labeling, which refers to the packaging components, is still December 15, 2022.
2020: six kilograms more packaging waste per capita
In the Corona year 2020, 78 kilograms of packaging waste per capita were collected from private households in Germany. This represents an increase of 6 kilograms per capita on average more than in 2019.
Distributors are subject to numerous complex recycling regulations in each shipping destination worldwide.
These include obligations to register, report quantities and take back the products they place on the market. In addition, different regulations apply to participation in take-back systems. In this article, we focus on the market in the UK.
Italy: Environmental labeling obligation for packaging postponed again
In our newsletter 1/2022 we already informed about the postponed labeling requirements for packaging in Italy. The Italian government has again postponed the application of Legislative Decree 228, Article 11 of which regulates the application of the eco-label to packaging.
Companies now have until December 31, 2022 to prepare for the legal obligations. In addition, the possibility of selling off stocks of products already placed on the market or labeled remains possible until Jan. 1, 2023.
