Slovenia: Newly regulated producer responsibility
On March 16, 2022, a new environmental law was passed in Slovenia. This law also newly regulates extended producer responsibility. Producers are obliged to join together to form take-back systems. Only associations that place more than 25% by weight of the reportable products of a waste stream on the market will be recognized as a take-back system.
In addition, the new law provides for an authorized representative for producers of each waste stream from abroad. This offers foreign producers of packaging and batteries the opportunity to register in Slovenia. Labeling requirements are to be set by the government, according to the new environmental law.
The adopted law has now been published and can be viewed in Slovenian here.
