UK: No enforcement for EPR data reporting non-compliance until May 2024
The UK government has recently made an important announcement regarding deadlines for submitting reports on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging. Originally, large producers were required to submit two separate reports on their packaging use or production by October 1, 2023, and April 1, 2024, as stipulated in the Packaging Waste Regulations.
The Regulatory Position Statement (RPS) Announcement
According to a Regulatory Position Statement (RPS) released by the government in early September, the environmental authority will not pursue violations of these deadlines. Instead, manufacturers are now required to submit both reports separately by no later than May 31, 2024, or face sanctions.

Due to the complex requirements for these prevention plans, the Citeo collection system (packaging) has extended the original submission deadline, which was initially set for July 31, 2023.
The deadline for submitting prevention plans is October 15, 2023

Austria to Introduce Deposit System for Single-Use Beverage Packaging from 2025
Starting in January 2025, Austria will implement a deposit system for single-use beverage packaging made of plastic and metal. The central entity, "EWP Recycling Pfand Austria GmbH," disclosed all the details in a press release on September 25, 2023. Here are the key points:
Deposit Regulation: Goals and Measures
This regulation promotes a more sustainable consumption culture. Its objectives include establishing single-use beverage packaging as valuable resources for reuse and setting the following goals:
Increase recycling rates to 90% by 2027

Enhance environmental compatibility and conserve resources
From 2025: What's Changing?
The regulation applies to almost all beverages, except milk and milk-based mix drinks, in packaging ranging from 0.1 to 3 liters. The deposit is a uniform 25 cents, regardless of the material or size. A standardized symbol marks containers subject to a deposit.
Affected Stakeholders
First Placers: Manufacturers, importers, and sellers of single-use beverage packaging made of plastic and metal
Final Distributors: Companies selling such packaging to consumers
Collection Points: Companies that accept empty containers
Responsibilities of the Involved Parties
The responsibilities are diverse. First Placers must collect the deposit, final distribution points must accept empty containers. The costs of the collection points are covered by a per-piece fee.
