summer has arrived in Germany. The thermometers continuously show temperatures above 20 degrees and thanks to falling incidences, the (late-) summer vacation may still be planned.
Speaking of planning, a lot of planning is part of the regular work of manufacturers, (online) retailers, importers and exporters, even with WEEE registration. We will tell you what you need to know when registering for WEEE.
A packaging ordinance came into force in Slovenia on April 24, 2021
Online retailers who do not have a branch in Slovenia but who place packaging on the Slovenian market (whoever first places the product in the market) are obliged to register in Slovenia and appoint an authorized representative.
In addition, the de minimis limit of 15 tons is no longer applicable for domestic companies and foreign online retailers. The registration obligation therefore applies from the first piece/gram. The elimination of the de minimis limit will inevitably lead to a capacity bottleneck in the disposal of packaging in Slovenia, since the disposal systems do not have sufficient capacities.
In cooperation with our partners, Deutsche Recycling offers a registration and authorization service. Our contact persons are looking forward to inform you!
What you need to know about costs, import/export requirements and how to apply for a registration number
The year 2021 is half over. Time for us to see what is important for WEEE registration this year. We clarify the question of what retailers, manufacturers, importers and exporters have to pay attention to, what obligations exist and what costs will they have to bear?
In our blog post we also answer some frequently asked questions about the WEEE registration in 2021.
Usage and disposal regulation for old devices finally adopted
On June 2, 2021, the Federal Cabinet finally passed the treatment ordinance for old devices. A slightly adapted draft was adopted in which minor amendments proposed by the Federal Council were adopted. However, the changes introduced are only intended to clarify the situation and thus facilitate the application of the new regulations.
Contrary to what was recommended by the Federal Council's Environment Committee, the controversial clause is still part of the regulation. This clause has been heavily criticized by the recycling industry in particular, because it forces recyclers to remove certain components and substances before mechanical shredding of old devices.
The new ordinance will come into force together with the amendment to the Electronics Act (ElektroG) at the beginning of 2022. With the new regulation, the federal government wants to supplement the regulations of the ElektroG and bring the requirements for the management of old devices up to date.
